The winners of the Nairobi City Marathon are set to take home significant cash prizes, with the top reward in both the men’s and women’s categories being Ksh3.5 million.
This year’s marathon featured four races: the full marathon, half marathon, 10-kilometre expressway run, and a six-kilometre fun run. Over 14,000 participants took part, though only the competitive races offered prize money, according to the event’s official website.
Event director Ibrahim Hussein emphasized the marathon’s adherence to the regulations of World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
The top prize of Ksh3.5 million will be awarded to the first-place finishers of the 42-kilometre marathon in both categories, with Ksh2.25 million going to the runners-up and Ksh1.5 million for those finishing third. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 20 runners, with amounts ranging from Ksh800,000 for fourth place to Ksh30,000 for 20th.
